Go on a virtual tour of Oral Roberts University with me, Tim Reid-style. I’ll show you the campus, and tell you a bit of the history and lore of this Tulsa institution.

“Tim Reid style” — now there’s a contradiction of terms! As if anyone would associate my retarded video editing with the word “stylish”…

But seriously, I liked the little inserts and graphics you used to get the point across in this one. I couldn’t help thinking about the Farting Preacher videos while I watched your footage from Brother Roberts’ Heal-a-Thon — “touch my hand and feel the power of prayer fix your aching back” — a snappy little fasrt wav right there couldn’t have hurt his credibility a bit.

Loved the 900-foot Jeebus, too. :-)

First, and it must be said… Buddy Christ!!!

Now that the Kevin-Smith-uber-geek-ness is over with…

The architecture of ORU that you showed in the ‘cast wasn’t that bad for a university (granted, it may have looked like George jetson was about to come whizzing by at any moment, but hey… I would have killed to walk around buildings like that as a kid. Or now. *walks over quietly to other side of room*)

Second, I wonder if the way I percieve the sort of bible-belt evangelism of Mr Robert is skewed by the fact that I’m a Brit (we all know how quiet and reserved we all are… stiff upper-lip and all that). I’m spiritual, rather than religious, but I was brought up methodist, and so even though I don’t believe in it, I can appreciate belief in power of prayer. But the idea of these sorts of televised heal-a-thons… well, lets just say they aren’t really seen over here (unless, of course, you have subscribed to some obscure and forsaken channel on cable/digital). Sketch-show fodder, anyone…?

I’m glad that someone is as disturbed by the “sights” of ORU as you. I still maintain that clearly Jesus didn’t want that hospital or it would still be open. Also, since the Roberts can heal by prayer and by touching a tv screen, why did they even need the hospital in the first place?

When I lived in Oklahoma, I took a colleague from Haiti who was appalled by the architecture and waste of money on show biz.

The architecture has aged to a point of acceptance for what it is. Though my preference in buildings in Gaudi (as in Barcelona) as opposed to Goddy and gawdy.
